History

Woodland Chamber singers was founded by Doris Warden in 1975 to meet the needs of some of her musical friends.  They formed an octet to just enjoy chamber music together.  They soon grew to 12 to cover each Soprano, Alto, Tenor, & Bass (SATB) part with at least 2 singers each, in the event of absences.  The group gained popularity in Woodland, and began to grow.  Under the direction of Bob Edmondson, the chorus branched out to other types of music and attracted new singers.  A later director, Tracia Barbieri added to the extensive repertoire and some fun elements. Under the direction of Lenore Turner-Heinson, the WCS has grown to around 50, with a large contingent going to Carnegie Hall in 2014.
WCS obtained a tax-exempt status in 2010 and has been providing 2 concert seasons per year.  We also have sung at local convalescent homes, the University Retirement Center in Davis, and supported music development in both Woodland and Davis.  Our members come from Sacramento, Esparto, Capay, Davis, Woodland, Davis and West Sacramento.
